I agree that Mateta has improved but it was from a very low base .
Remember one swallow dose not make a summer .
I think we will be lucky if he score 10 goals next season .

That's the spirit!

Let's not forget he was playing for a manager thawed out of the ice who still thought he was managing Inter Milan in the 1980s.

Shortly after he signed three years ago I slaughtered him on here ... couldn't trap a bag of cement, etc...that I'd eat humble pie if he ever turned out to be a player (feeling certain I wouldn't be). Spiderman said you'll be eating it.

Some improvement and goals under Viera saw him become twice the player I thought he would be and clearly more willing to stretch the opposition than the lazy Edouard.

Eating the full humble pie now. He's been magnificent over the last few games when we've needed him.

Keeping those 3 on top must be the number 1 priority when it comes to transfers this summer. Unbelievable trio...

I have to admit I was one of the doubters in his ability, although near the end of Roy's reign I could see a big improvement with his physicality. But wow! has he showed me and others that he can play given the chance. I will gladly eat humble pie. Well done boom boom, keep it up lad.

It has been amazing the whole improvement. I remember in a recent joint post match interview with Will Hughes, Hughes made the comment that Mateta is "grafting" now.
In his early days i did feel he usually found the target when he was presented with a chance (though they were often getting saved) but as others have mentioned he played a very isolated role and chances were very few and far between. At this stage his hold up play and his running in behind were pretty much non-existent.
To see the same player now the goals are now going in, his link up play is coming off and he is now running in behind. Credit to Mateta and everyone involved in helping him to make the step up.
He is now the player we hoped to get in if he and Eduard were moved on.
Value wise i think will be around 40 million pounds and i think since the post was started it has doubled.

I have sat in his corner all the time , He wasnt given playing time to get a understanding with his supply line ,
all strikers need a supply and with Eze , Olise ,Wharton and Munoz he has it , He has filled out , he always had nice touchs yes sometimes it looks lucky but he couldnt be lucky that many times , he was most of the time very close to scoring with his shots , all in all he has shown he is a good striker , it took 15 games before AJ started scoring ,

And best thing of all he has helped my bank balance

So thank you Matty see you next season maybe get 20+ goals for us

COME ON YOU PALACE
