Cant argue with that, its ingrained in him and Ray, if Roy stays and we dont bring a recognized premier league attack minded player in, its all on Olise and Eze, if they play 75% as a pair we stay up, if they don't we go down.

I think both you and Nick have basically summed it up. Having said that, I'm not anti-Roy per se. I am thankful for the stability he brought to the club and his short tenure last season. But. as I said in the Summer, I was disappointed he was reappointed because we really do need to move on. I backed him because he was our manager but his public utterings, his treatment of young players he has given some minutes to, and the increasingly boring and turgid defensive football fare he has served up leaves me counting the days until he goes. I suspect it will be a sad end to his Palace career whenever he does go - it would have been so much better had he "rode off into the sunset" so-to-speak in May 2023.

Agree all round db.

Roy's football is archaic (almost last century Italian), boring and soul destroying. That subjective opinion (held by many) can however exist alongside an objective statement that it is effective, depending on your goal...

Unfortunately for us, most notably this season, this is sent from heaven for a club with little capacity to invest in players (spend) yet desperate to retain PL status.

Roy coming back was of course hugely beneficial for our Chairman/Board however only ever spelt one thing for us as fans. As to why Roy took the job, I certainly can't understand however I imagine he did so, purely, because he wanted to. The sad fact now though is that if he does fly us to close to the sun, it may all end in the worst way possible.

Roy is not the problem he is a symptom. I wish him nothing but the best however if the effectiveness of his football continues to dissipate as it has down for us this season, it could all end quite sadly and badly for both him and us.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Our shortlist is probably made up of a few ex players. So Brighty/Dougie/Pardew/Southgate/ we all don't want - but what about say Popovic/Ismael? I wouldn't be totally against it. Popovic perhaps a bit unknown but Ismael (however you spell it sorry) - thinking about it he fits in with quite a bit for us. I'm sure there are others out there.

I haven't followed Popovic's career since he started coaching but last I heard he was doing well at Sydney. I appreciate thats not in the same solar system as the Premiership but maybe with experienced coaches around him? Anyone else know how his career is going lately?

IMO - therein lies the whole issue - the blatant disregard of available talent and potential in favour of mediocre dross..!!

So in answer to your question - what would have another Manager done differently- err give a chance to the talent and potential available - just maybe..!!

COYP

Who is it that the current coaching team are ignoring that are 'available talent'? I am genuinely interested in the answer here as I'm starting to think we signed some quality players I didn't know about.

Imray, Ozoh, Franca and Ahamada should all be starting above, Hughes, Schlupp, Clyne and Richards IMO

Far more experienced coaches would disagree. I'm not only talking about Roy here either. Ray and Paddy concur. Either that or Roy is lying. He says they regularly discuss individual player progress and development (as you'd expect seeing as they work closely together)

The problem is Roy wont play young players because the make mistakes, De Zerbi says that's why he plays them, to learn, its not as if Hughes, Schlupp, Clyne etc don't make mistakes, its a old persons view to a younger persons view, chalk and cheese

De Zerbi has the luxury of being in a league position where he can afford to drop the odd points. I think you're a bit soft in the head if you think he'd play kids if Brighton were where we currently are. Besides, De Zerbi isn't coming to Palace so why do you keep using him as an example? Or is it just a Brighton thing?

Sorry, took a while to catch up on posts. So he is now at Melbourne. He definitely was at Sydney but obviously not now. Not that it really matters I suppose.

Now that he has been sacked by Ghana could Chris Hughton come into the equation

I very much doubt this !

Hughton likes his teams to be 'Compact' and admits himself that he is not the most expansive of coaches.
