Roy has just said two transfers broke down just before the deadline, players that HE wanted, so grumpy you seem to know J******t

He didn't say that at all as his references were all to "we"

Hodgson said: “That was unlucky, because [chairman] Steve Parish and [sporting director] Dougie Freedman worked very hard in that last week going to the end of the transfer window on two players that they and we thought were pretty much assured to be able to come to us.

“We were counting on them, which would have made a big difference to the size of the squad. But unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstance, we lost both of those and it was too late to get anybody else.

You have just confimded my point, its WE, Dougie finding, Roy giving his opinion, and then Dougie and Parish trying to complete the deal, its a joint arrangement with all bring their various skills to the table, FFS

The point is the myth that Roy, dosent have any input into the players we buy is what many fans think, that he is just given players that Freedman and Parish provide

People find it difficult to write unemotively about the Chairman because of 2010, for which he will always be a hero.

Palace is in a sense a massively over-achieving club. There's no way that with the gates it has, and the history (overwhelmingly outside the top flight), and the lack of money the Board spends, it should be where it is. It isn't as if we have a superb youth policy: Mitchell and Wan-Bissaka have rolled off the production line in the last four seasons and that's that. Is Palace a bigger club than e.g. Forest? Emphatically not, according to the criteria I've instanced. So that it is where it is is remarkable.

All of which should suggest that supporters should be happy. But if there is a 'next level', it will need someone with much deeper pockets than Mr. Parish. He's a canny businessman and if he ends up making a mint on the sale of Palace, good luck to him.

His problem is of that whenever he tries to make a 'left field' appointmant: de Boer, Vieira, it doesn't work. Pulis, Allardyce are not really the same fettle as Roy Hodgson, but they were very successful appointments- for the short term. Or look at Pardew: got Palace up to fifth place in the Premiership before seemingly losing interest and wanting to be the manager of England or Chelsea. The Chairman knows that Roy Hodgson can't last much longer and it'll be interesting to see whether he goes experimental or safe. I'd like to see him appoint Graham Potter.

Ultimately when Parish leaves - he wants to leave with both the new stand built and the club still in the Prem. Will he achieve both? Not easy. We will see. For now I’ll just enjoy beating Manure away. Everyone’s happy when we do that and no one is even thinking about blaming Parish for anything.

Mitchell was really a product of Brentford's academy who joined us as a 17 year old when Brentford closed their academy

It’s simple, do the transfers early and don’t wait to the last bloody minute!

I assume that Ekki Tikki Tavi was one of them which curiously part failed allegedly as we decided to negotiate with the player and not his club but I wonder who the other one was

Hazard? I didn't believe we were seriously after either. I felt we were placating Roy and bluffing the fans.
