The Academy has cost in excess of £20m.

Trying to develop a stadium in a built up, residential area is a complex project.

The delays have been frustrating. I think the whole scheme was announced by Steve Parish somewhat prematurely.

Work is now planned to start next May.

Fingers crossed it does then. It’s a shame that in the last 5 years of us trying to achieve this, building/material costs have increased by about 50%. Concrete cost has risen massively last 5 years. That’s a couple of decent players lost to a load of bricks and mortar!

On a serious note I don't think there is a mystery to our transfer priorities.

Money is the driver and with the board unable or unwilling to invest large sums it's all about plugging gaps.

I'm sure that Roy would have loved 5/6 players but my guess is that he was given a Hobson's choice:

Goalkeeper:
Guaita wanted to leave and was kicking off. Johnson for some reason has not settled and the backup keepers are too young or not good enough.

Centre Half:
The game against Plymouth showed us that Tompkins is no longer reliable and Richards gets injured too easily. O'Brien was sold, was this a mistake or was it to placate Textor who publicly complained that he wasn't being listened to.

I expect Roy told Dougie and Steve I need a Zaha replacement and a forward and he was told sure but only if we can get them on loan which we couldn't.

In other words with the limited transfer budget we have been looking for bargains never an easy market to dip into.

Given all of the above and with Roy's defensive instincts I guess we prioritised the defence.

I wish they would tell us what their strategy is, because there were numerous players available on loans or for fees of less than £10m and we were not even associated with them. Yes, we tried for Ekitike but surely you don’t just stick all your eggs in one basket.

I disagree about Johnstone not having settled because all of the noise coming out of Palace is that they will be fighting each other for the number 1 spot and not that he will be moving on.

Would any manager other than Roy accept the fact that every time he asks for players he doesn’t get any? Let’s face it, this is not the first time he has not been supported.

Johnstone hailed as an England player by the app one minute. Next minute Roy says Henderson will definitely start. I don't see this being problematic. We'll be looking for another keeper in January.

Problem for me is that we must (mustn't we?) have a recruitment strategy, but what the F*** is it? Young players with re-sale- Holding and Lerma, no. Prem experience? Franca...no. Back-up when we sell a star or two... just Franca, no. Do we only buy in the UK? Do we have no talent spotters in European leagues, seems that way.

There has been no visible sense whatsoever to our recruitment in this window other than (hopefully) we are gathering money for the next manager and for the new stand. I am very frustrated with this club but I guess I have been for most of the last 60 years.

The club has a decent system in place which is why we've been able to pick up the quality players we have in recent windows

The first step they use is data-based as is the case with many clubs today. They trawl through literally thousands of players from around the world to reduce the list to a group they can then start looking at and assess. Henderson has been a target for a while now. Matheus França was scouted for months by DF and his team as were Eze and the others we have bought in recent years.

We don't always get our first choices because there's a lot of competition. There may well be players we fans would like to see but which DF and Co have ruled out as not being suitable for us despite their apparent qualities.

Doombear, where do you get that information from? I don’t buy it with Eze and Olise. Anyone who regularly watched football a tier down could tell you that they were in the top ten players in that league. it certainly didn’t take some data based deep undercover operation to work it out and we paid accordingly at a price that might appear cheap but was normal for championship players at that time.
