The take on MotD was that the VAR official panicked because of recent criticism of the time checks have been taking and consequently "forgot" to advise the ref correctly. As Shearer pointed out, why the Assistant VAR didn't remind him is a mystery.
Looking forward to Ref Watch tomorrow and seeing Dermot "Dogso" Gallagher squirming like a salted slug over this one.

Liverpool were also unlucky with Jota's first yellow card when he clearly did nothing wrong.
The Curtis Jones red wasn't as contentious because even though it may have looked worse than it was it was still a potential leg breaker in the still picture the ref was shown.

Good old Darren England strikes again, just pure incompetence, what is he doing at the highest level?

If you consider it though Teddy, with Dermot the ref will still be correct. The excuses will be "only had the information available to him". When, realistically, it should be "how the f*** has he not seen that?". I'd put money on it.

They brought VAR in to tidy refereeing up ,get more correct decisions. Two opinions better than one, one possibly more considered. That didn’t always work, so they increased the opinions to three, and guess what already within a few early games the decisions become three times more bizarre . Is there a way out of this? Well if there is it doesn’t look like having more opinions is the way . What about better refs in the first instant.?

Show games live and open up the phone lines so the public can vote on all decisions. Matches will go on for 10+ hours each but that will increase the advertising revenue during breaks and give the players plenty of time to rest, recover, refuel, review their investments, restyle their hair, redefine their gender or what whatever else they do.

I couldn’t believe it at the time, they didn’t really query it live, when it was clearly onside, you could tell by the cut of the grass. Gary Neville was rambling on about his leg was only dangling or something somehow defending the decision. I bet he’ll say different now

Also on the subject of Neville, a decision that was right, Neville and Redknapp saying Jones didn’t deserve a red, well what ever era you’ve watched or played the game in, even in this day and age, if you go over the top of the ball with a challenge it’s a sending off, those numptys wind me up more than the poor decisions

Apparently England, the AVAR and Oliver the 4th Official had all been in UAE on Thursday with FA approval. What is going on here?

I know I've said it before, but VAR in it's current incarnation is broke. Whether it's the technology is not easy enough to use, or the people using it are incompetent, it is currently not fit for purpose. It should be removed for analysis, so 'they' can get it right.
This means the powers at be accepting there is a problem, and that they've fecked it up - which won't happen so they'll plough on with it regardless, creating even more complicated applications of what should be a simple (and rarely used) implementation of the Tech.
Can we just go back to onfield decisions, and accept that the decisions are sometimes incorrect.
