Mearsheimer articulates a lot of my thoughts on this war and how we should be running policy. I think the fact that we haven't taken this line means that now the outcomes are far worse whatever we do.

Ukraine will receive only 6 F-16 fighters by the end of spring 2024 instead of 45 aircraft that European countries such as Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Belgium promised to send it last year, The New York Times writes, citing sources. I would suggest that's the different between talk and reality. I realised the final reality on that back with Syria....unlike many people I remember what the western leaders said on Syria and then what actually happened.....that final nail was observing just how the media stopped talking about it...dropped it like a stone. I was kind of insulted...but I guess it works on most people.

The Wall Street Journal: European defense enterprises will be able to significantly increase the production of ammunition, including for supplies to Ukraine, no earlier than the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026. Rather obviously that isn't going to cut it. I don't see Russia planning to fight on beyond the summer next year. Perhaps those two realities aren't entirely coincidental. Russia are planning a big offensive this summer and it's likely that Ukraine will fall back to more advantaged positions before that happens. Edited by Stirlingsays (17 Mar 2024 4.36pm)

The US Congress postponed consideration of the allocation of military assistance to Ukraine for another 3 weeks due to the need to resolve other issues and holidays.

Whilst I know the Republican controlled House is trying to link agreement on aid to Ukraine with their desire to change the approach on border security I see nothing new in the last day or so. So where does the idea that they have paused consideration for 3 weeks come from? A link would enable verification of source reliability.

Whether Ukraine receive 60 billion or not the results at the end of that Russian offensive will play a significant part in the inevitable negotiation. My own personal view is that the war finishes in 2025 for a myriad of reasons. Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Mar 2024 12.55am)

Hope Putin gets asasinated.
