Can I join up the dots between the Tories privatising water, the shareholders stripping millions a year out of the industry while investing nothing in the infrastructure, the 'waivers' offered to water companies by the Tories to permit release more untreated waste into our environment and the now shocking state of our water?

Because those seem like much more relevant dots to me.

I mentioned those, but for some reason you lefties have a blind spot for the obvious pressure that mass immigration puts on all services.
It is the single major factor that affects most things that people care about. Crime, housing, security, water and power supply, transport, the NHS, not to mention the endless drone about race.

When more people want a peice of the cake, you either give them smaller peices or make a bigger cake.

Our cake tin is finite.

I just want to confirm to everyone that everything is indeed better in the EU. I know because I live there. The EU has solved almost everything. It won't be long before we need another bailout so I hope you all agree.
The immigration pact is working a treat. Absolutely brilliantly thought out. Plus, so militarily strong. Who'd mess with us? We're the new superpower and we're coming for you. And yes, it's totally borderless - and you can use the same money when you go on holiday. No border checks and hardly any inflation or price gouging. All completely true.
Basically a paradise while Britain feeds off of the scraps.

Nope, more than happy to acknowledge immigration is a relevant factor in loads of areas, including those you mention.

But equally, I don't view it as the be all and end all of every single topic and I don't fail to hold to account the people actually responsible for our declining living standard by obsessively focussing on immigration.

This water story is a perfect example - immigration rates are loosely relevant to our water quality, but there are many considerably more relevant factors.

A better analogy around the 'cake' is that more and more of the cake is being hogged by a tiny percentage of people while the rest of us, immigrants and locals alike, scrap around for an ever-declining share of the crumbs.

When one of those things, which is the one most would put top of that list in my opinion, is the NHS, which couldn’t function without immigration, it seems the only blind spots exist in the minds of those who blame immigration for everything they disapprove of.

We need skilled people so until we reorganise ourselves to provide the training places and ensure that everyone who can work does work then we have no choice. Providing the necessary infrastructure to deal with that is essential but comes alongside the primary need.

I would actually agree that the biggest factor with water has been privatisation. I will also tell you that here a lot of the water is brown. Most in Ireland will not drink the tap water. So we nationalised it - it was up to individual corporations before (councils to you). It hasn't improved although they're spending billions on new infrastructure - which is presumably mainly made out of brown envelopes as is our wont. I pay 15 a quarter for an under sink filter system. I will say the company (Gulp water) are excellent and at 15 a quarter I don't miss it. Everyone, and I mean everyone does that. Although, rurally you could quite easily have your own well.
The funniest part when they tried to privatise water in Ireland (firstly by charging for it) was the politician who stated "water doesn't just fall from the sky'! You'd wonder if he'd ever actually been in Ireland between his junkets. It was one thing the Irish people would not take - water charges. We got together, for a change, and beat it. It's like charging Saudis for sand.

We can certainly thank our voters also for this - to have actually voted to impose economic sanctions on ourselves.

'wider and wider, may our sewage be set'.

Christ! Where do you buy your tomatoes, Fortnum and Mason?

I can't argue with the highlighted bit.
Sadly, capitalism is often allowed to run out of control, and I'm all for checks and balances. However, Communism don't work bud.

Clearly, the rules for private companies running utilities need to be rewritten and the current rules upheld in the meantime.
