Don't the strict application of Sharia law and particularly it's treatment/execution of apostates who leave or disrespect the faith show that I.S is very much about a form of Islam and is obviously driven by religion. I.S volunteers from the UK seem to say they go due to the desire for a "purer" Islam. IS followers' faith in a militant & violent form of Islam is obvious. RIP their latest victims in Egypt.

Islamic state is everything to do with Islam. They wouldn't exist without it.

These people are motivated by religion even if many of their aims are more earthly.
