At the time Till Death was on TV I'm not sure the concept of being PC had been invented. My own recollection was that it was the bigots in society, similar to the Alf Garnett character, who were unable to recognise that they were being sent-up and thought that the programme ( and Johnny Speight) was actually sympathetic to Alf Garnett's viewpoints.

Although some of the terminology that Alf Garnett employed to describe black people wouldn't pass now, the programme still has credibilty thanks to the Tony Booth and Una Stubbs characters who provided the counter arguments and balance to Alf's ignorance.

Alf would handle this better by saying....

"I'll tell you... I'll tell you what the problem is....Course your Kermit is a lefty ponce winding up Jimenez who's so capitalist he'd sell his own Grandmother.

Gawd help us, they need their bleedin 'eads banging together!"
