Can anyone recall a game in the eighties, where at the end of the match players had i think 15 secs to run
from the halfway line and score past the keeper.Imight be wrong but wasn't this how the american league took penalties .Was it a testimonial or a friendly?I do remember Jerry Murphy just scoring one on the 30 sec mark

I seem to remember this being muted in the early 80's as an alternative and fairer method to the orthodox penalty or even instead of the penalty shoot-outs.

Obviously never used in a competitive match or friendly that i know of in this country, although i do remember a news item where it was tested with Bob Wilson I think as the keeper.

I believe back in the 70's when the USA started to form soccer leagues they implimented this form of penalty if a game ended in a draw. They don't do draws in America.

It was just like a penalty shoot out where 5 players from each side would have a go.

Obviously never caught on.

Oh yes we do. Since MLS eliminated the 35 yard shoot-out several years ago all regualr season MLS, USL and new NASL matches are final after 90 minutes, win, lose or draw. Extra-time and penalties are used only in cup ties and play-off ties, with normal procedures applying, such as at the end of the second leg of an aggregate tie or the end of a knock-out (MLS Cup Final, etc.).
