At the risk of getting shot at from all sides, I have to stick up (a bit) for "identikit" politicians.

We have them for one big reason: they win elections.

It's a bit short-sighted to blame them for being "careerist". Blame the electorate for believing that Cameron (IMO an utter charlatan who wouldn't know a principle if it crawled up his leg and bit him) is somehow more "prime ministerial" (whatever that means) than Ed Miliband.

Also, given some of the frankly scary guff you hear from the politicians on the fringes (ie, the ones you don't agree with, in my case anyone from the Greens) maybe the centrist, anodyne stuff is not such a bad thing.

What I'm trying to say is that, in my ideal world, we'd have Attila the Hun as prime minister with that marine bloke off Celebrity Fit Club as Chancellor. Nick Gusset would want Fidel Castro and Arthur Scargill. Maybe these think-tank groomed special adviser sorts are, for all their flaws, at least a happy medium between the two.

I think Castro is busy.

Generally these days, UK Prime Minister is kind of like a President, a c**t in a suit, that takes flack, but actually has less power than they make out and generally toes the party line.

The problem with everyone being centrist, is that ultimately its a pointless exercise. You need the fringes to be represented in government, even if they only have one or two MPs, to throw some of the unpopular, but often important, issues into the ring for debate.

Sometimes, you need those people who 'are on the outside' to throw something into the mix. The Greens, might only have 1 MP, they might come across as crazy ladies who keep sparrows in their hair, but they do have quite an important issue that may very well need to be addressed, which no other party really gave a f**k about.

For me, Labour's problem at the moment is that they are saying they must listen to the electorate, which to a point, is fair enough.

However it is becoming their soundbite and it makes them sound like they will say anything to get elected in stead of sticking to principles that they believe in.

The list of candidates is woeful and I think that Labour may have a few years in the wilderness at this rate.

Which is to say, that it might be scary stuff, but there is pretty decent evidence that suggests that the ecological future of the UK and world (and Humanity) isn't looking too good.

Looks like Corbyn then?

Seeing as Labour seemingly only represent an ever decreasing minority group and are more of an irrelevance, a proper Socialist party needs to be started that fits with a modern society that doesn't have any connection to working Unions, the socialist worker and their outdated views.

We can't have a situation where the Conservatives have a free run for 10 years due to lack of decent opposition.

The electorate does not buy into outdated left wing principles as the last election result showed so modern socialism needs to be born. Revolution !!

Whatever comes out of the Green's mouth will ultimately not make any difference at all to climate change in the world.

China or India or the States, couldn't give a feck compared to downsizing their economic activity.

But hey, it might make a few more old ladies die in winter time because of their fuel bill.

Technological advances are the only show in town.

The Gusset Party, perhaps?

Truesai. The idea, further endorsed today by blair, that Labour should just be a copy of the tories to get elected is stupid and does the party's image no good. Unsure why blairs opinion counts for anything anyhow?

If Labour had won the Scottish seats, no one would have won the election.

No the Tories would still have won. The Tories have a majority. The SNP plus Labour plus the Lib Dems plus the Greens all the other parties is still less than the Tories. The Tories won 50.8% of all seats (they won one Scottish seat so would still have had 329 of 650).

The majority would have been scarily slim but it would still have been a majority.
