Got to hand it to Supes. What Tevye have as subject matter he gets a FOTR plug in.

Now that's impressive

Cue the call for a none of the above option on voting cards.

Strangely, I kind of agree with you.

My only concern would be that we would be in a constant state of electoral flux and we would never have a stable, elected government.

UKIP are a protest party, plain and simple.

I'm very likely to vote for them NOT because I think they have any worthwhile policies, but because I am fed up with the centrist, metropolitan consensus of the "major" parties. (Who, incidentally, are so "major" that they have fewer than half a million members between them, so if you want unrepresentative media representation it doesn't come much more unrepresentative than that!)

Especially the Tory party who are an even worse bunch of charlatans than New Labour.

The political class need a kick up the backside and I think voting UKIP will help deliver that.

They might well be full of unsavoury characters and I wouldn't trust them to run a brothel let alone a country, but that's not the point.

It's a protest vote, which I think is a perfectly legitimate political position to take.

Good post, and my opinion on them.

The whole political system needs a shakeup, and people realise that voting UKIP is the most likely way to make it happen.

But it too many people thought like that then it could back-fire and they end up with 70 seats or something and then be part of a coalition.

That's what happened with the National Socialists 1933. Legitimate votes got them into power after some horrendous economic times. I wonder how many of those were protest votes too?

Personally, i will be protest voting for a more benign Party or independent candidate instead.

There was a bit more to it in 1933. The humiliation Germany suffered as a result of the First World War did brew a fervent and dangerous nationalism which is not present in this country, UKIP or not.

UKIP are the new SDP as far as protest votes go. They will do well - ironically - in the Euro election but probably fail come the general election - due partly to the different electoral systems. Adds a bit of interest to these proceedings !

And that shows how rigged the electoral system is here in the UK. Government alternating between the same two parties in perpetuity. How cosy.

The self righteous PC fascism pervading this country, where the terms racist and homophobe are bandied around should you not agree 100% with the liberal agenda, also leave a bad taste in the mouth.

They bring a certain air of respectability to nauseous viewpoints which border on extreme (as has been shown by various 'slips' by their activists over the years) so will definitely attract the votes of those who have been too ashamed to vote BNP so far even though part of them wanted to.
