It says more to me that we should be doing more about people with mental health issues. Blaming the press is shifting the blame imo.

Such as realising the carnage wreaked upon mental health provision ,both in and out patient,as a result of cuts and "austerity" over the past 6 years...and seeking to reverse it...had a close up view of this recently with someone I know and the decline in standards/provision in recent years is frightening...notwithstanding brilliant and dedicated staff (many being immigrants without whom it would all completely collapse),working for low pay given their skills..

I don't disagree with the gist of what you are saying.

A sensible and civic minded society would help those with mental health issues, which in turn helps prevent incidents like that that happened today.

We have had many more incidents like this since care in the community was realised by the Thatcher government.
If standards have dropped, it is because of the strain put on the health services by increasing demands.

Immigrants are integral to the health service because our governments have failed to invest in British workers.

I would disagree:

1.Mental health provision has deteriorated primarily because of swingeing cuts (its an easy target without much of a voter/middle class support lobby)particularly re outpatiemt/post discharge/care in the community.I base that on 17 years of seeing the gradual decline..particularly over the past few years

2.There is a preponderance of immigrants because British nationals have increasingly turned away from doing such work because of relative low pay and sh#tty working conditions...as reflected throughout the NHS, see ie exodus of doctors and nurses overseas and into the private sector.

I heard you the first time.

Your second point is not really contradictory to my point. There has been a failure to invest in training and pay for British workers. The government has deliberately taken the cheap option.

There is always a funding issue with health in the UK but to ignore the increased demands as a big factor is denying reality.

Are you saying that I don't think black people commit crimes?

Pleased to hear your post was "tongue in cheek" Nick. Although I generally disagree with your views you usually put them with wit and clarity. I thought that the "May's Britain" post was one of the stupidest ever, As you weren't being entirely serious I suppose that's OK

Well at least "Corbyn's Britain" is an unlikely eventuality. I hope!

More likely to be Michael's.

He is trying to prove that Brexit is juxtaposed with the rise of a new breed of 'extreme right fascism'.

It's become an obsession for him.

Not for me.

That is interesting, why? At the time they created just as big a stir as later waves of immigrants.

Do you mean because they are the same colour as you and speak a language that has some similarities to yours?
