Sorry, too young, I was 2 years old.

Here is what the table looked like.

Here's the set of results on the 19/04/1969.

I see that Charlton were the other team that could stop us going up that day (they lost that day). As this was pre-Brighton rivary times was it extra special that we had stopped Charlton going up?

The pyramid to beat all pyramids!!

Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in?

From memory I don't think many Palace fans would have given a monkey's about Charlton back then. They beat us in the FA Cup that season in a replay at Selhurst with a 39000 gate and the first game had 32000 at the Valley - so maybe people did care about the local rivalry, more than I remember?

We never played Brighton at all in that era so I think most rivalry and dislike was aimed at Millwall, to be honest.

But that day was all about Palace. We'd never been in Div 1 and only 8 years previously had been in Div 4. I don't think many people could really believe what was happening and Charlton were just an inconsequence, much as today.

Zaha, Williams, Murray, Ambrose, Scannell.

Charlton weren't high on our 'teams we must beat'list then more than any other then and certainly not Brighton either, all that was aimed at Millwall then.
I was at both those cup games which were well attended but the defeat wasn't pleasant but it didn't quite have the edge on it that it would today.

Still remember guy going on the pitch to give John Sewell champagne before the game being ejected. great atmosphere in the imcomplete arthur wait.

I was a 14 year old in the Arthur that day. It was Chris Wright who went on with the champagne at the beginning of the game and poured it on the ball I recall.
I am sure my dad has some cine film of that day, including the Lazarus lap of honour, must get that converted and onto youtube!! Watch this thread!

If that's the same Chris Wright that I know, I didn't realise that he was that old.

There are a lot of faces that I just cannot put a name to after all this time, one guy to the right of Lazarus loks a bit like George Petchey but not sure with that suit on but Arthur Rowe looks well, in fact a lot healthier that he did on the day he left us.

I couldn't get that close as those who were in the enclosure could but I wasn't far back from that photo.

Great picture, defenitely have download that!!

It looks like George who had left us by then and I think a guy who is wearing glasses at the top of the photo might be Arthur Wait's Brother Bert, I believe. There are so many familiar faces from the past, it's been a while!!!

Two along from Mark Lazarus, the guy resembles Ronnie Allen, who had retired 4yrs earlier and could also have returned for that match, a big fan of Jacko's was Ronnie, as Bill Glazier once told me!

He was considered to be a dead ringer for Frankie Vaughan, who he actually tried to persuade to take up football rather than singing.

Some may say they wish he had!
