The negativity and complete disregard to how our club , are performing. We have survived yet another season in the prem. I remember being a little boy with my dad going to Bolton at home in 2001 and losing 2-0 then wolves losing again and crying knowing we had to get two results to stay in (division 1 ) at the time. Then going to Portsmouth winning 4-2 and having some hope and we all know what happened at Stockport!!

I’m fed up because I know what will be the replys to this, “we should be aiming higher” s*** transfer windows” etc etc , we are Crystal Palace , we punch above our weight, we always have done!! The season we got promoted we were favourites to get relegated to league 1!
Please acknowledge the job Roy has done, no money spent, just pure passion, you all knew the target was 40 points , Jordan ayew made it clear after every match interview “closer to target” etc . We have achieved this.

I have seen so much drivel on Twitter I have deactivated my account. I genuinely can’t stand our fan base on Twitter anymore . We sound like a deluded bunch of idiots with a right to European football and if this mindset carries on , we will end up the same way as charlton.

PS I’m not looking for an arguenement if anyone disagrees , I just wanted to vent but hope you will agree

I’ve been saying it most of the season. With the squad we have and our shocking injury list for most of the year, we should be relegated. The only reason we are not relegated is because of Roy’s tactics. Our defence is the slowest (bar PVA) in the division by a country mile but yet because of Roy’s tactics we are able to hang on in games and get enough points to survive.

The same people bang on about lack of subs every week. Are these people blind? Have they ever seen our bench on match days? Do they not think Roy would like to look around and see a good player on the bench? All I hear is bloody Meyer this, Riedewald that. 2 bang average football players who can’t get a game ahead of Kouyate, that is there fault not Roy’s. They have had years to impress him and they are still not good enough.

People need to have a good look at our squad and be grateful that we still in the division.

Deluded man!

No sir, I’m not deluded, I’m realistic unlike yourself? You think we can just “get” a new manager, then buy a whole new team?
That’s deluded

For the money they’re paying supporters do have the right to expect to be entertained though.
Football is entertainment whenever their ridiculous wages are mentioned but in the points business after a dismal 0-0.

I know what you mean. I sit in the Main Stand and most matches find myself groaning at our endless sideways and backwards passing, and seeming lack of attacking intent.

But "entertainment" can come with all sorts of outcome. I think had we played exciting attacking football this season and got relegated most of us, in retrospect, would have preferred caution and enough points to stay up.

Of course there is no certainty that we would have gone down had we had been more expansive in our play. What we do know is that Roy's conservative approach did the job, and with the players at his disposal I'm not sure if there was huge scope for entertainment.

I know there are a number on this site who would rather see us playing entertaining football in the Championship than scraping through in the Premier. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that we would necessarily see more exciting football in that league, as anyone who witnessed Freedman's inaugural season as manager would testify.

Have watched Palace in every division barring 3 North . The only time people are happy is when we win far more than we lose .
It doesn’t matter what the division. Winning and winning well is the only way to please the fans for long. Financial reality means we have rarely managed that in the top division ,so fans have rarely remained happy in the top division. It won’t change in a hurry. And the nature of fans will never change.

I am one of the more positive and supportive fans on this site, probably even when a player or manager no longer deserves it; however, it really has been a hard watch at times this season. I do think Roy has done a great job keeping the club stable, but I would like to see a bit more attacking next season. Last night showed we are capable of attacking more and I actually think just 2-3 first-team quality signings would make a huge difference. I don't care about fighting for a European spot as we're not there yet in terms of finances, instead I'm concerned about seeing us play some decent football.

Good post and agree word for word.

That’s true. In our case it also comes down to signings. Luka is no more going to play like Gerrard than Mesut Ozil is to play like Dave Mackay.

Yes, i think the older you are the more history of watching us playing the likes of gillingham, hartlepool, rochdale etc every week, getting arsenal or spurs in a cup and just knowing you will lose(beating Chelsea in 76 doesn"t count as they were the original chels), leeds was an exception ! Now we play arsenal or whoever and get a result every few years, i will settle for epl survival, a cup run and a new stand in the next few years, we are not a champions league club yet and who wants that europa league nonsense, i hardly know any of the teams in it now days, and it"s a sure way to get relegated!

Actually, I think most on here will have no trouble at all relating to that. We have the oldest team in the PL, but I also think we have the oldest chat board. What a nasty ‘orrible piece of work Mackay could be at times.

pretty par for the course in the sixties. If I remember rightly he came back from a couple of broken legs and was snapped up by Cloughie to lead his Derby team to the title both as a player and then again as a manager.
