Was my first favourite player and scored in the first game I went to against Manchester City in 1979. Still haven't forgiven Venables for selling him (One of the few Palace players from that team who didn't end up at QPR)

A player who improved greatly in his time at the Palace - from a youngster lacking confidence to a very effective striker.

On a slightly irrelevant note I will always remember being at a petrol station in West Wickham in 1976. I had stupidly locked myself out of my Hillman Imp. Whilst waiting for help who should pull up to pump gas but the man himself - DS. In a Ford Capri I believe.

Swindles best moment for me was when he scored the winner in the 4th round against Leeds at Elland Road in 1976. This was the Leeds of Billy Bremner etc. Leeds were 4th in league, we were top of 3rd div.

I know I'm repeating myself, but the Croydon Advertiser heading after that was "David Slays Those Leeds Goliaths" - still have the press cutting!

Yep, Swindles vs Leeds my favourite too.

Saw a lot of him at Selhurst in 1975/76. He put them in off his knees, shin, thighs, ears, and occasionally with the boot.

Slight thread drift but Alan Whittle was also a treat to watch on his day. It was a good team that season. A bit prone to leading 3-0 at half-time and finishing up with a 3-3 draw against rubbish like Halifax or Aldershot but hey - that's Palace. Donch'a luv `em.

Lives in Wallington now near me..I see him now and again. Not the biggest fan of Simon Jordan after sacking him as reserve manager!

About twenty years ago we put together a very useful Sunday side as a bit of a social thing (we had been school mates or team mates at other clubs) and in our first season (where we tore the league apart) we played a team that Dave was managing (may have been Keston or at least from Keston ???)

Unfortunatley for Swindle we murdered them home and away..

His son plays in the Orpington & Bromley Sunday league, I sort of know him to say hello to. He's just like him, just a Sunday league version! Big, decent touch, plays upfront, good in the air, and enjoys a scrap from what I've seen!

Great to see him at the game yesterday. A shame that we can't turn the clock back and put him up front in the current team!
