How will you feel, when we lose to Spurs and Luton?

Beating a poor 10 man Burnley team is no yardstick of progress, we laboured to score until they tired around 70 minutes. Lets see how the next 2 games pan out, before getting carried away.

I think most are expecting to lose to Spurs. I was also definitely expecting a loss at Everton, so whilst disappointing to concede a late equaliser, that's a vital bonus point.

Basically, if we take 7 points from Everton, Luton and Burnley, we are safe. That would require the period in the season where we get our best attackers back to only get 4 more draws out of the season.

Lose to Luton and it's still squeaky bum time. That would be typical Palace after doing the needful against Everton and Burnley.

Take a point or more from Spurs away and we'll be absolutely rocking. I don't see that happening though but we can fantasise.

A bit ridiculous to say but I'll take it as a more sincere point.

Will depend on the manner of the defeats... if they come. There's the Hodgson style 'where on earth will we ever even get a goal from/why can't we defend or score from set pieces/why are we playing for 0-0 every game and still losing' and then there's a more promising manner of defeat in which we do look a decent outfit but have key players out and don't get the rub of the green.

Beating a poor, 10 man Burnley is no yardstick but our general play immediately looked lightyears ahead of what we've seen this season. I actually thought the game wasn't going our way and we really did look sore for not having key players, of a superior quality. The difference was though that eventually the new style, as I saw it, triumphed and saw us through to a rather modest 3-0 victory. Under Roy that could well not have been the case.

Subs were used at the right time and effectively, we looked to have more width, we were on the front foot, actually had a plan for getting forward and creating chances and even looked to have a corner routine or two up our sleeves beyond just throwing it in there. This is all promising. Every single player looked different and improved and the collective unit looked far more effective than the pub football siloes in which they used to operate.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

This post sounds like it could have been written by Hodgson.

We've just enjoyed our most comprehensive win of the season, kept a clean sheet, displayed progressive movement and forward momentum in our approach play.

Burnley are no great shakes.
But neither were Forest, Bournemouth,Everton or Fulham when we played them at home under Hodgson, and we failed to beat any of them.
You can only deal with what's in front of you.
You can't say for sure what future results will bring, but I for one feel far more optimistic with the change that has been made.

I would also add that this was probably our first win since the opening day against Sheffield Utd where we seemed completely in control for the whole game. Even at 2-0 we continued to press for more goals. Yes it is just one game against one of the weakest teams in the PL, but I thought it was a far more dominant and controlled performance than our recent win against Sheffield Utd who are just as bad as Burnley and we had Olise, Eze and Guehi in that game.

Blimey and I thought I was pessimistic about Palace. Cheer up 3 points earned, it will take OG time to retrain the players this season is just about picking up the points the best we can.

One more point

good point. Other than the Forest game when we were down to bare bones, these are the type of game you need to get something from.
To not win at least one of those 4 home games is unacceptable.

Pretty sad.

But we were excellent until we went 1-0 up against Everton, and excellent for large spells against Burnley. Not not the greatest yardstick, but its points and good performances.

We'll get better with time, and our better players will come back making us stronger and giving us more options.

Don't rain on our parade!

I agree with most of you that the only one not playing well was Edouard. So let us concentrate on encouraging those that did play well and not keep banging on about those injured players. Yes we all want to see them back because it is very likely to improve our team but continuing to give minutes to the young players that have performed so well is a must for our future. Look at what happened in the cup final!

With regard to JPM, I used to think he was a statue wheeled on at the start and off at the end of the game, but now he moves, and what a difference. If he could improve his judgement others could work off him with more confidence.

Exactly, and that's why the Burnley performance spoke volumes for what Glasner might be able to achieve when:
1) We're back to as full a squad as we can reasonably expect and
2) Glasner has had the time to work with the squad to achieve the set-up and style(s) of play he is seeking.

It's easy to forget that at Turf Moor, Burnley were the ones on the front foot for long periods yet somehow we managed to win the game. On Saturday, we basically didn't let them play for most of the game but rather imposed our own game on them and that was the case from minute one.

Of course, Spurs will be a different matter altogether, but I, despite thinking we will probably lose, can at least approach the game believing we have a chance of getting something out of it, which would not have been the case had Hodgson still been in charge.

I feel your pessimism Painter. We have all experienced the same season. However, we clung on only a few weeks back to just about scrape the 3 points against Sheff Utd. OK no red cards, but an even worse team than Burnley.

This time, other than the disallowed goal, Burnley barely got a sniff.

I think we will lose 1-0 to Spurs (Son) as that is now a trend set in stone, but we were manifestly better than the same Palace team of very recent history; and the new guy has yet to set his style.

Judge us not on Saturday but on Luton.

We had to win versus Burnley and thank goodness we did just that and although it was far from easy against a very poor 10 man Burnley I am more than grateful for those three points. What the match did show up was our lack of a decent striker/goal poacher and once again, although the goal was rightly disallowed, our vulnerability when high balls come in to our box. We still have work to do, especially as Everton seem to have got back four points from the deducted 10. Like most on here I'm not really expecting anything from the Spurs game. Luton is different it is a must win game (they have a game in hand on us!) and then after that lets hope we get some of our better players available for selection to help us save our season.

Hopefully our susceptibility to crosses is a coaching issue which OG's new staff can work on.
