This will be the next battleground and a fascinating one.

Nicolas Sarkozy is out of the running for the mainstream right nomination:

Leaving Juppe and Fillon to fight out the right's nomination.

The Left in France are in such a state that it is likely that the run off will be between the right's nomination and the odious Le Pen.

This will be the first major European election post the Brexit vote and a litmus test of EU support in what is, supposedly, one of the cornerstones of the EU. Scarred by terrorist attacks, a stumbling economy and a fragmented society, some practically living in ghettos, France has some major problems to deal with.

Its certainly a case of interesting times. I think the mainstream parties will take a battering, though I don't think the Front National will win, it'll be close

Marine Le Pen: would.

According to opinion polling everyody should beat LePen except Hollande, although not sure how much opinion polling is worth these days.

Front National are the only party who would take France out of the EU, that will win them a helluva lot of votes.

And partly, to the tune of 9million euros, bankrolled by Russia/Putin no less. What's he up to, the cheeky scamp?

I'm not sure if you're referring to something else, but she said in a Hard Talk interview that they had no option but to go to a Russian bank for funding, as no others were willing to work with her.

There's a lot more to it than that [Link]

".....The scope of the cooperation between the French far right and the Russian authorities, which started long before the annexation of Crimea, indicates that it is one of the many elements, albeit a significant one, of the Kremlin’s long-term strategy to support all the anti-EU and anti-US forces in Europe in order to undermine the transatlantic cooperation and ultimately weaken the West."

None of the French banks would lend to her.
