I’ve been considering our strikers since returning to the Premier League,
Murray, Gayle, Jerome, Chamakh, Campbell, Benteke, Wickham, Johnson, Doyle, Batshuayi, Sorloth, Edouard and Mateta.
It’s a real mixed bag and on the whole led to a disappointing return.
Murray was a reasonable success on his limited opportunities and Benteke had perhaps a couple of decent seasons, but overall our track record has not been great.

Realistically in the present day we’re not going to be able to afford a 15-20 goal striker, so perhaps we should consider trying to spread goals around the team.
From where though?
Wilf may be good for 12-15 goals, but I’m not confident of others hitting even 8-10 goals.
We don’t create many chances anyway and the likes of Ayew, Olise and Eze certainly aren’t prolific.
We also can’t rely on set piece goals.
It may be a case of concentrating on keeping clean sheets and hoping we are more ruthless in our finishing to achieve wins.

Maybe the academy will start to deliver before long. Gordon as a striker amongst others is looking promising.

It may be an unpopular view, but I suspect that part of the low strike rate of our strikers is down to a certain Wilfried Zaha, who holds on to the ball too long, loses possession on a regular basis, and wants the glory for himself. Somehow he has now wangled himself the central striker's position, I don't know what's going on. Earlier in the season we have seen good goals for Mateta and Eduoard through quick ball into the box and I believe that if the service is forthcoming from wide areas they will score.
